College Football National Championship Preview

Alabama Vs. Clemson

Spread: ALA -5.5

Kickoff: 8:00 P.M. EST

Preview: There has been a lot of talk about Alabama-Clemson fatigue leading up to this game, but there shouldn’t be as this is a battle of the two best teams in college football (and it’s not really close). Both of these teams are stacked with NFL players at almost every single position. This game features a battle of two young stud QBs Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence, who will each face the toughest competition on the defensive side that they have seen all season. Bama has a loaded front 7 led by DT Quinnen Williams, who has been wreaking havoc all season along with Isaiah Buggs, Raekwon Davis, Anfernee Jennings, Mack Wilson, and Dylan Moses. That defensive front 7 might rival some NFL fronts, and that isn’t even including Christian Miller who is questionable with an injury this game. Clemson’s front is the only other in the nation that rivals Bama’s with Clelin Ferrell, Austin Bryant, Tre Lamar, Christian Wilkins, and Kendall Joseph, but DT Dexter Lawrence remains suspended for this game after testing positive for a banned substance. Albert Huggins is a very good backup, but I think Alabama will be able to get some push up front with Lawrence out. Clemson LB/S Isaiah Simmons, who is rising up draft boards as I write this, is a fun player to watch in the Keanu Neal and Derwin James safety/linebacker hybrid role and will be a player to watch against Alabama’s weapons. Alabama RB Josh Jacobs is my top back in the 2019 NFL Draft if he declares, and I think he could be a difference maker in this game. I am ultimately going with Alabama in this one because I think the biggest advantage in the game is the Bama DL vs. Clemson OL, and Trevor Lawrence is going to face more pressure than he has probably season in his entire football career in this one. If Lawrence or Tagovailoa were to exit early in this game, I have a lot more confidence in Jalen Hurts than Chase Brice to lead his team to victory, especially because Jalen Hurts is a proven leader who has done it before. How will the True Freshman, who has such a chill demeanor both on and off the field, handle the pressure is what will decide this game. I can see either team taking an early lead with the other team making a big comeback attempt in the second half.

Prediction: Alabama-35 Clemson-31
